FS Person Tool - Share Data (Reg.) - Import of childrens en bloc (more than one)

Hello to all,

often I import FS data with the FS Person tool. So I like to ask it is possible to import more than on person at the same time - meaning import all persons?

I want to import 7 childrens with only one click. It this possible?

Best regards

Ingo

I don’t think so.

If I want to add a family with multiple people, I will create a temp new database and download from FS just that family using the FSID of the parent and 1 descendant generation.
Then D&D into my main database after a backup.

Granted it isn’t faster maybe slower then just clicking on each person - it probably is faster with more people.

Yes, I had the same thought. But then there are too many files. It’s better to transfer them individually; sometimes it’s even possible to import two children at once.

But now, I know that is a feature request

Just a guess but I would say that something needs to change on the FS side for that to happen.

I would say as tedious as it is – its best and likely safest to do one child at at time. There are work arounds but that could lead to other issues

Ideally, one should first create a fresh new database. Then, after import, normalize the data to match conventions for PlaceNames, etc. of working database. Drag n drop to working database comes afterwards.

great suggestion if a smaller or larger branch needed. I would say not worth effort for just one family group of children

FamilySearch intentionally designed the FT API to go slow. They want people to be careful about what they are adding to the community tree, one person or fact at a time. That slowness goes in both directions unfortunitely. Import is the only time we can add more than one person to RM.

I agree that it’s better to import one person at a time, as the links and connections need to be created as well. That’s why I always do parents one after the other. Sources, notes, and other details must also be taken into account.

I am currently expanding my family tree one generation at a time and have about 500 people to compare. Even so, being able to import all children in the correct order would be very helpful. After all, winter in Germany isn’t that long! ;-)"
