Enhancing the TASKS part of RM11

Hello everyone,

A few observations from using this part of the program (or “things I would like to see added”):

  1. the optional ability to link the Person record to a task from the Task pane, like a dropdown menu in the Edit Task pane that reads from the people list. (I know existing tasks can be linked, and new tasks added, from the Person record but it would be nice if the same functionality could be available in Tasks).

  2. Sub-folders to enhance organisation. I have a series of Folders labelled “PEOPLE - ”. When researching a popular surname it means my folders list is full of these folders. For example, it would be nice to be able to create a collapsible “PEOPLE - SMITH” main folder that then contains all the specific subfolders I have, such as “PEOPLE - SMITH Joe”, “PEOPLE - SMITH, Jane”, and so on.

  3. The option to define new task types as we can do with facts (This was recently forwarded as a development proposal so it’s here only for completeness sake).

  4. Colour coding of Folders using the same system for the pedigree chart.

Thanks for reading!

  1. On the Edit Task panel click on Used. Click on the Add (+) button to attach the task to a person, etc.
  2. This can be controlled by naming. I would personally remove the People and just start with the surname.

Confirming request have been reported to development.

  1. Thanks for that! I completely overlooked exploring the Add(+)

  2. Wouldn’t that just create the same long list of folder names which, after time, will become even longer and be interspersed with tasks not related to a specific person? Being able to collapse folders would shrink the folder list and compartmentalize tasks.

I suppose it depends on how people utilise the Tasks facility. I’m sure some will ignore it, some will use it as is and others, like me, will want to expand the feature beyond its current capabilities.

I have submitted #2 as an enhancement request to development.

Thank you, much appreciated
