Description field is missing from the data input for Alternate Name even though it is enabled

So @Kaitlin-- I believe kbens0n hit it on the head when he says it is likely because of gedcom structures–I checked another genealogy program and basically is the same EXCEPT they don’t show you the sentence-- you can if you wish individually customize the sentence in RM for each person

That way it will show up in some reports but basically not on the detail section of the edit screen–another option is to make an additional alternate name2 fact which will allow you to add the additional info and see it in the detail pane on edit page BUT not in the index-- otherwise make you a new fact called deeds–just use a sentence from something similar such as will and rewrite a little bit…

using a custom alt name fact – then you could potentially change fact for everyone from the built in to custom.

Although the FactType Cols (table) and Event Cols (Table) may have the the same options they software might not be allowing to “mis configure” so it does not cause issue with GEDCOM.

I have not double checked the standard for the ALIA and other tags for 5.5.1 and 7.x but you might want to do so. If you can find some in the standards that RM is not doing correctly it might be considered a bug if that was the case.

Screenshots from RM7. The description field had been left enabled when it shouldn’t have been. On the fact level even with it enabled it wouldn’t create the description field. That error has been corrected. If you imported a file where description was checked earlier that setting remains, that is why you are still seeing the checkbox, but grayed out. If that’s bothersome I can see if development can clear those checkboxes.
