I am new to both using RM and importing family trees from Family Search. I have multiple branches of my family trees that I would like to merge and have watched discussion of drag and drop in RM on YouTube but am not seeing how to accomplish this action on my Mac. Any insights would be appreciated. I am using RM11
A simple “hands-on” experiment would be a practical first step. Create a fresh database, add John Buck, add wife Jane Doe and son August Buck. Leave it open while creating another fresh new database. Add same John Buck and wife Jane Doe, along with two daughters April Buck and June Buck.
RootsMagic will now be comprised of two separate windows, each opened to those two separate new databases.
Hover your mouse pointer over John Buck on your currently open window, press and hold your mouse button, and drag that John Buck out of its current window and across to the other database window. If you then just release the mouse button… RM will start a dialog with You ~about~ your current mouse “action”. If you don’t release the button right away and instead continue dragging the pointer and position it overtop of a person named John Buck… RM will start a dialog and ask also if you want these two John Buck individuals to be one and the same.
Investigate the result of your dialog choice(s) for the Drag and Drop of family members from two databases. That’s a quick study in beginning to understand how the process works (without messing with your working database). Now delete those practice databases.
