After editing an RM10 Publisher page of an existing Book, how to best Save those revisions for future re-edits and/or additions? I’ve made changes one day only to have to make them again the next day. Saving as PDF, DOCX or TXT not the answer. If I close out of the Publisher window and then the RM window with the “X” in the top right corner, reopening the file hasn’t saved the recent changes either.
Should I be using the “Rename” option in the “Rename, Copy, Delete” options?
What areas are you finding the edits are not saving? I just went through the Cover Page, Copyright Page, Title Page, Acknowledgments, and Text Page where the most edits are made and all those changes are saving. Make sure to generate the book after making changes to save them.
Renee - I just went through the process again. I made 3 edits to a Cover Page and 2 to a Title Page, then generated the document. All looked well. I closed Publisher with the "X’ and reopened it, and all was still well. Then I closed publisher again with the “X”, this time closed out RootsMagic with the "X’. Upon reopening RootsMagic, all 5 edits were gone - replaced with prior content. Hope this helps. /Peter
Good question… I just did the same process again to make sure. If I simply close, go to “People”, and return to Publisher, the changes remain. If I close Publisher, go to “People”, then close with the “X”, and then reopen RootsMagic (at People), then select Publisher and then select the same file icon I started with, none of the changes remained. The previous data was back. Another file’s icon was not created (which I wouldn’t have expected).
This is where MS Word’s “Save As” functionality might be useful in Publisher.
I’d like to think that, but it’s not happening. I did a generate both yesterday and today which generated an updated document once and then again after closing and reopening publisher but not after closing publisher then closing the application, and then restarting the application and returning to publisher. By that time the old version of the document had reappeared, losing the new version.
Run the database tools first under File, Tools. Then you could try the uninstall/reinstall. Make sure your database is not inside of any folder that syncs with the cloud like OneDrive, Dropbox or GoogleDrive.
OK, I moved the file off OneDrive (didn’t know it shouldn’t be there), then opened it, restarted RM, went to Publish, and saw my latest updates had reverted to the prior content. Before I uninstall & reinstall, have you any other suggestions - your remote access to my system?
My draft book project is a year old now and this is a show-stopper. I can’t say it started with V10 or later, but early sessions worked right - no issues.
Before doing the uninstall/reinstall see if what you have done now is enough. Now the Style settings are not saving, but the text in the other pages should be saving when you close.
I’ve just finished the reinstall of 10.0.0 (64-bit) - all smooth, but not 10.0.2 yet. My .rmtree is on a different unshared disk. I did the edit procedure again on just the cover page and the latest (formatting the Title & Subtitle) edits were lost again.
Other edits vanished also when this all began and still persist. Specifying no Place Index, and No Sources got lost have to be repeated each time. Text formatting (font, margin, padding, etc.) also gets lost.
In both the cover page and title page I set the fonts and the font sizes in the appropriate title and subtitle boxes. Then I copy from a previously made docx file the text of the title and subtitle into the appropriate boxes of both pages. Then I also enter the location of the file containing the cover picture into the appropriate box of the cover page. Now I generate the document and all looks well on these two pages. Closing publisher and immediately returning shows the revisions have been made successfully. However closing out of RM completely and returning to publisher shows the most recent edits are not there. Previous data is there.
