Anyone Ever Use Clooz?

I am evaluating a genealogy program called ‘Clooz’. It is touted to help with researching people and documenting the sources found. It is not a tree program, rather a document program. A user can perform and document research and evaluate data prior to importing into other tree programs such as RootsMagic. Has anyone ever used or currently use Clooz? Do you find it helpful? How do you use it?

I have not – I have heard of it.
they have a Facebook page and YouTube videos.

Have never used it—so I watched some of the video to see why I MIGHT want to—still wondering why BUT came across something in this video
https://clooz.com/player/VideoPlayer7.html

at abt 12:29 on the counter, he said the ability to EXPORT DATA is only currently available for LEGACY ( sorry Renee :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:)

So went searching on the net and found this info

RootsMagic is somewhat similar, but does not allow Clooz to write data directly to the database. Rather, a special GEDCOM file is produced by Clooz and has to be manually imported into RootsMagic. It is special in that it includes record identifiers so that RootsMagic knows whether the person the data is for is a new person (to be added), or already existing in its database (thus avoiding duplication of people records). It’s just a few extra steps to do, but can be as effective.

So you can still use it with RM but I am wondering why you are interested ( maybe I just haven’t found the video that shows me how it makes researching easier???)

I have it but don’t use it as it is more of a “stand-alone” program for organization of your documents.

Will, Birth/death records, census records, etc are added by entering the data within those documents. After that you are able to see all the documents you have for a person or all 1880 census you have, etc.

I don’t use it as I didn’t want to go back and enter years of documents. Had it been available earlier, I would have used it in parallel with RM.

FYI I think it has a FREE 30-day trial

In Clooz Help:

Clooz directly reads information from the RootsMagic database (set as Primary on the External File Links list).

However, Clooz is not authorized to write directly to the same database. Therefore, a GEDCOM file is produced by Clooz for the user to import into RootsMagic.

So you can install CLOOZ and import your RM data to it and see the results

Thank you for the video link – it’s a fascinating approach through the source documents rather than person and relationship centred.

Hi kness, I accidentally came across a reference to Clooz while reading some genealogy overview information. It suggesting using Clooz as a research repository. With this program, I can input a source document I found as an “Informtion Record”, and then link all people mentioned in the source document to the Information Record. If I’m not sure a specific person associated with that source is the same as another person already added to Clooz, I can make a new Person record. Then when I have reviewed all the evidence I have on the person(s) and determined that the multiple persons are actually the same person, I can then merge the two person records. This is one way I can use Clooz. I am thinking I would like to use Clooz to input all documents found during research, compare and contrast any conflicting data, resolve duplicate or conflicting data, then once resolved, I then put that data into my RootsMagic tree. I have a lot of paper documents in a file cabinet, and this program seemed like a great way to log and analyze all of those documents. I do like the ability to look at a particular source document and see all the information associated with that document, including people, events, pictures, etc. By logging the individual pieces of data of a source into Clooz, I can perform searches easily. In my evaluation though, the one thing I don’t like is that Sources are imported into RootsMagic as free form sources, it is not able to determine some RootsMagic source template to use. I haven’t decided how I will handle that. I have not 100% decided yet to buy Clooz, I have a couple of days left on the trial period.
