Adding and Alternate name to an established fact

My grandfather changed his name at some point in his life. I have created a new fact for his Funeral Service: Funeral services for [person] were held <[PlaceDetails]><[Place]>.

I want to include both names, “Funeral services for John Doe/Joe Q Public were held. . .” but I’m not having any success.

Any suggestions?

Presumably, you do not want EVERY Funeral Service fact to result in a sentence that shows a “phrase” about that placeholder token for Alternate Name, because most will not have one and the sentence will be deformed.

Instead of editing the universal Fact sentence template, you might better consider editing just the Fact sentence at the individual level (within the Edit Person screen of the deceased individual only) to explicitly add the alternate name into the the sentence that regular Funeral Service fact sentence template generates.

You’re right. I don’t want every person’s fact to state that. Many of my ancestors do have alternate names (I only use “nicknames” occasionally) and it would be helpful to have a general fact to include both names. But I will go with your suggestion and do them as needed.

Thanks for your response.

Fundamentally and generally speaking… the info that can be “extracted” and become a part of the fact sentence template are, basically, the various elements of THAT fact ONLY.

There are some potential obtuse “hacky” ways that one might could achieve what you’re thinking, like entering their Alternate Name textually into the Description field and then using the [Desc] tag in the sentence template to make the wording flow how you want it. Other users likely have other suggestions.
