Which seems correct, but then when I want to add a media file to a person (media/add media), it goes back/shows an old folder location, but all have a red cross against them, one I originally started with!
c:\users\…\roots magic\colin_roots_1_media
Also the media folder shows 71 items, whereas in windows explorer it shows 107 items!
What I want is for everything to point to c:\users\…\roots magic\media
I am sure it is something quite simple I have missed.
Just to confirm what you’re seeing, when you click on the document icon in the “Filename” field of the “Add Media” window, you are presented with a different folder than what you’ve defined in Folder settings? If so, RM is not supposed to work that way. This is a global setting , not db specific.
The only thing that I can suggest is that perhaps there’s a typo in your setting. you might try to modify the Folder setting to something else using the folder icon,
not typing, and then put it back to c:\users\…\roots magic\media. if that doesn’t work I’d contact support.
For the missing links, try running the “enhanced properties list” tool and fix as appropriate. It sounds like not all of your photos have been linked to your RM file or your looking at an older version of your file.
existing media that is currently like the current Database? (aka Media Gallery)
or all media possible in the default folder regardless if attached to database?
Putting all the other questions aside for a moment, that can simply mean that of the 107 items shown by Windows Explorer, only 71 of them have been linked into RM. Placing a file into the folder in Windows does not link the file automatically into RM. You still have to link the file into RM, either with Add New Media or with Drop New Media.
Changing the folder option in RM and making sure the folder name in Windows matches does not fix the links that are already in RM. One way to fix the links that are already in RM is to run the Fix All Broken Media Links tool. But in this case, I think it would be faster and easier to run a search and replace as follows.
