Aha! Unused geocoded places are exported by RM7 only with the options:

  • Everyone
  • Extra details (RM specific) - note that Help says nothing about Places: “extra details (RootsMagic specific tags).”

I avoided using GEDCOM as much as possible because of the losses and probably seldom made an “Everyone in the database” export. Even “Everyone in the same tree” excludes all unused places. So we have been on different tracks.

So this is, indeed, a surprise to me and, I suspect, a great many users, just as it is to you that unused, non-geocoded Places are excluded by an Everyone, Extra export and that unused Places regardless of geocoding are excluded by any export other than Everyone, Extra.

Same for RM10… just no longer can export a GEDCOM without at least one person still in the database.
