I have been installing SSD’s in Enterprise servers and replacing the previously installed HDD’s which are still in a functional state. SSD’s are now very good indeed, and failure rates are on a par with conventional drives. As boot drives, they are fine it is only their cost relative to large data drives that precludes there use currently. So yes, use HDD’s for data and a good SSD as a boot drive and you should experience little in the way of early failure.
