I was excited to learn from the RM 11 introductory video that the Relationship Calculator shows multiple paths between two individuals. (This feature is not covered in the RM 11 Official Guide.)
However, of interest to me are multiple paths between me and a particular ancestor. I tested the RM 11 Relationship Calculator on my relationship with one of my ancestors, with whom I know I am related by two paths of direct descendancy. The calulator displayed only one of those paths.
It is only showing the same common ancestors once. If there were other common ancestors it would show those. A request has been reported to development to show all relationships to the same common ancestors.
Thanks for your response, Renee. I think many of us have what I am describing, which is that the same ancestor appears more than once in my family tree. It usually happens due to two cousins marrying, in which one might have two paths to let’s say a 4th great grandparent. In my case, I have a 5th great grandparent who married the daughter of his first cousin. The result is that I have a 7th great grandfather who is also my 8th great grandfather. I would like to see a relationship chart that shows the line of my descendancy from him split into two lines, then merge. When I look at this part of my pedigree in RootsMagic, where he appears in two locations on the tree, RootsMagic gives his relationship to me as 7th great grandfather in the details for both instances of him.
I am related to my wife through three different common ancestors. We are seventh cousins in one relation and eighth cousin once removed in the other two relations. The relationship calculator shows all three relations correctly but doesn’t show the people between us in the common ancestors. However the relationship chart report only shows one of the relations, the seventh cousin relation. It does show all the people between us and the common ancestors. Is there any chance future upgrades might let all three relations be included and can be printed in the relation chart report?
