Recommend a Beginner Genealogy Group please

I fully understand the “Discussion on research methodology, DNA, surname help, other companies or products, or other general genealogy topics is not permitted. Off-topic posts will be deleted without warning.”

However, hoping I might ask for recommendations for groups that are open to questions. I am trying to properly interpret the information in a report I believe was generated by an early version of Family Tree maker.

Thank you for your patience

Online approaches are not the only way to learn about genealogy issues. You might want to inquire at your local public library to see if there are courses locally in genealogy taught by volunteers. Many of these are likely to be free, and learning along with others in a group can be very useful.

Going to a library with a genealogy collection, you can ask questions of a reference librarian who can likely guide you to areas you would never even think of on your own.

LDS family history centers are often staffed with volunteers that most users can learn from. If you are lucky enough to be in proximity to a local history center/museum where your ancestors lived, they are likely to have volunteers who may be extremely helpful on the people who lived in that community.

Excellent advice - There are such resources locally, however for medical reasons, not something I can take advantage of. Still great ideas for anyone to consider - new or experienced.

For questions that are not too complex to be answered by phone, try calling the reference librarian at a local library. Best asked of a librarian working in a librarian with a genealogical collection. Groups such as the DAR or SAR - Sons of the American Revolution may have a person who answers questions by phone. Many researchers are very generous with their time and happy to talk to people with similar questions.

Librarians are some of the best people on earth, and apparently the same can be said of genealogists - thank you for the added suggestions.

I am hoping the Family Tree FB group suggested will be able to answer since the question(s) are based on a printout of a FTM report.
