Gazetteer issue

Can someone explain where the Gazetteer draws it’s information from. I’m trying to reference Kings County in Prince Edward Island, Canada, and it’s not providing any options. Any ideas?

It’s third party software that has been in use from at least RM3 and maybe as far back as Family Origins. To the best of my knowledge it has never been updated. I do not use it due to its limitations but use Google Maps/Search to get place names and coordinates.

Gazetteer is merely a supplement; an aid with some time-dependent historical place name variations.

Thanks both. I think I had assumed it would draw it’s feed from something like the Familysearch gazetteer…particularly when it talks about Standardised place names. Will have to do some thinking about how I will use this feature in the future,

You can use it for what works for you – then add places or GPS if/when needed – those places stay with the database unless you remove them. It seem to work well for MOST USA places – and generally poorly for Canada ( in my experience). I have added many places for US but as % not very many. I also have custom location for Cemteries. This has worked well for me

I don’t see Kings, Prince Edward Island, Canada listed in the Gazetteer but it is showing in CountyCheck.
