Errror in Rootmagic 11.1.1.0

Hello, I have been busy over the past few days rearranging my pictures. The files didn’t have proper names and were all stored in one directory (13,000 files). I was a bit careless and didn’t realize from the beginning how important it is to organize everything properly.

However, after every 40 files, I get the following error. What kind of error is this? I have to use Task Manager every time to force close the RootsMagic program.

I have a Windows laptop with an i7 processor and 16 GB of memory. I am using Windows 11.

What I do is the following:

  1. In the Media tab, I look for the first images that are not correct, for example:

image

I want every picture to be renamed using the following standard:

The RIN number, followed by the given name and the surname.

then i select the tag and klick on edit

the person will be open and there i will go to the media

In another window, I search for the file on my computer and rename it with the correct name.

In this case: 90225 Anna-Maria Charlota de Rutenskiold. Then I move the file to the correct directory.

After that, I search in the Media tab for the correct picture, select it, and save it.

However, after repeating this process 30 or 40 times, I get an error. Can someone tell me what this error is?

Also, is there a faster way to do this?

@rzamor1 posted this a while back. Rather than using an external Windows screen to rename the file, “Go through RM when you rename the file then you don’t have to worry about forgetting to link to the newly name file. On the Edit Media panel click on the folder icon in the Filename field. In File Explorer locate the media and right click on it to rename. Once its renamed select and click Open.”

The key is to click on the document icon in the far right corner of the Filename field to start the process. You can change the file name and relink within that one action.

You can search this forum for “Tcanvasd2d” for other posts on this topic. Most people report this problem after trying to print. There are some basic troubleshooting steps mentioned.. run the 4 db tools, make sure your db does not synch to cloud, etc. Your description of this occurring after repetitive steps doesn’t fit the other posts that I recall. If you don’t get a resolution from other comments in the next couple of days, I suggest opening a support ticket so that the RM team can recreate the steps you describe.

Given I would suggest against using RMID while it might be likely to remain the same - not guaranteed.
I would have the name / FactType and date(s) in file name
Examples (you might want to change the order but each category in diff subfolder)

As kevync1985 points out, the RIN will almost assuredly change for some, perhaps most, of the people in your db if you ever have to drag and drop people to a new file, split or merge your db, etc.
