RootsMagic11 Book

I want to try creating a book. Where can I view other RM books to see examples?

RM doesn’t have any sample books to view. Maybe other users will share theirs.

What are you trying to do ? RM allows to create a decent book, my biggest gripe with it is that many things are not dynamic from a person’s POV so it you want to create many similar books from Different cousins POV that might be a bit tedious.

This is my first try at this. Guess I want to explore another feature of RM.

I didn’t mean to discourage you. A basic book is fairly easy. If I was going to create a more elaborate book I would not use RM and learning the quirks might get frustrating depending on you objectives. For that reason I still use FTM / FBC I can create a nice book in 15 mins (100-1000plus pages). Although, I might create both in some cases.

@huskym1025 Sorry I couldn’t find any examples of a book

Since you have RM 11, you could try using A I prompts to start the process BUT most of us found the results lacking except that the addition of historical facts was interesting-- and if you have Windows 11, you have Co Pilot on your machine–

this thread was a discussion on using A I prompts-- click on Chat GP in 1st one to see an example

There are several videos on this one abt writing and A I prompt

This other one has a few more suggestions

Basically I have seen some really nice book type reports over the years-- they are basically using the narrative report and picking one ancestor–say your father’s paternal line and doing a descendant report ( unfortunately that leaves a lot of ancestors on just his side out of the report) or picking one person such as your self and doing an ancestor’s report–I’m NOT a big fan of ancestors report as they become very hard to read really fast – if I was going to do this, I think I would unlink Mom from Dad and then run the ancestors report for each side of the family-- after that throw in pictures and pedigree/ fan chart…

Don’t know if you knew that RootsMagic has a program called Personal Historian that you MIGHT want to check out-- there is a free version

wish you good luck

Here is the video produced by RootsMagic founder Bruce Buzbee when “Books” was reintroduced in version 9. It might help you get started. Publishing Books with RootsMagic 9
