RM7 not accessing FamilySearch database

At a minimum, it appears the 6 LDS_ facts plus the top menu offerings in the FamilySearch Person Tools window accessed by clicking View in FamilySearch Central window.

That’s a real shame that rootsmagic did that. Some of us old timers are not going to be using a newer version of rootsmagic. I don’t know why companies have to destroy features of an old program just to force users to upgrade. I guess it’s all profits. I’ve been a rootsmagic user for 30 years, but stopped upgrading and will stay with version 7.

I had really hoped that some of our computer experts on the list would come up with a work-around for those of us who prefer RM7 to the newest version. I can understand why the program developers feel they should concentrate on their latest version, but find it hard to believe it is impossible for one of our “expert” users with advanced computer skills to make RM7 work with FamilySearch again. Some of them tell us that they too continue to use RM7.

Ancestry and FamilySearch changed their login portal and it is only reasonable to expect a small company to support only their current product. Rootsmagic made a killing effort to rewrite their program without professional outside help and is gradually cleaning up bad code and serious bugs. They now have a reasonable mac version (albeit intel only code) available to serious market growth away from obsolete x86 chips to arm.

Not certain what is so hard to believe about it. In order to make RM again connect to FamilySearch, said “expert” user would need access to the actual Rootsmagic source code as well as permission from FamilySearch to use their API. That expert user would then need to add the appropriate code to the project, recompile, test and eventually release release the project as a new RM executable.

No company in their right mind is going to hand out their source code without an ulterior motive or a really good reason. There really is no upside for RM to release that source code which could then be used to write a competing program.

This has absolutely nothing to do with some “expert” not helping you because they want to be poo poo heads…it simply can not happen, no matter how hard some users wish for it.
