Is it possible to tree share from Roots Magic 9 to Family search? I have a CET tree on Family Search which I uploaded via gedcom. Whispers in the wind indicate that Family Search will soon be allowing users to maintain a tree on Family Search which can be edited by the user and the user’s designated editors. These trees are supposed to operate like Ancestry trees; public or private, you choose. No one else can edit them or change them. I want to tree share my RM9 tree with Family Search and would like to know how that’s done. Also would a tree share include media? Thank you so much.
RootsMagic only works with FamilySearch Family Tree. We do plan at some point to work with FamilySearch’s Users Trees (CET). It would be a separate feature, added to a current version. We don’t update older versions of the software.
The CET trees were experiment trees and the experiment has now ended. I have RM11 but I still use RM9. Just haven’t made the switch yet. Anyway those CET trees are now called User trees and from what I’m hearing - probably during Roots Tech, there will be an announcement that one can have an editable User tree on Family Search like Ancestry. The CET trees were uploaded via gedcom, which does not include media. But right now there is no way to upload a tree that includes media. Is that something RM will be adding in the future? Because a tree without media is just meh. Thanks for your response.
I couldn’t speak to any specific details on what is planned with RootsMagic supporting FamilySearch User Trees.
sounds like its being considered for a future version.
Though I would think its less likely to see in RM11.
That said I give it 50/50 odd you would see it in RM12. (no release date for that)
Well while I’ve got you on the phone, so to speak, Ancestry has added a little “Description” to each fact that has not written a description about the fact. Will that download with a tree share between RM and Ancestry?
Enhancement and fixes are always in the current version of RM.
If a fact does not currently have the description field enabled you would need to do so in order to see any description that Ancestry passes through TreeShare.
This isn’t a description from Ancestry. It’s just a word they put in the fact description area if it does not already have a description in it. Is that word going to download in a tree share? Because it is on every fact that a tree owner has not filled in themself. It is clickable and when one clicks it, it opens a space where AI fills in information. Not sure why they thought this was necessary.
my point was that many enhancements and other fixes will not be in RM 11 and would appear in later major version unless you are implying there will not be any later major releases (such RM12 or RM13)
If an enhancement or fix requires a file format change then absolutely it would need to go in a new version of the software. We don’t make file format changes in the middle of a version.
yes I understood that. Most other enhancements (or fixes) would be possible / feasible in same release versions (ie RM11)
