The time difference is in the other direction 11PM GMT is 7 PM EDT. (Normally there’s a 5 hr difference but most of US is still on daylight savings time.)

OK, thanks. I wanted to double check, so that I understand how your situation differs from mine. And in this case, where the program shuts down, I suggest that you contact support for help and file a bug report when needed.

In the mean time, you can export a GEDCOM file from the site, and import that into a new tree. And maybe you can also find a friend who has Family Tree Maker, and who can download the tree and the pictures for you, if FTM can handle that. And if FTM can download them, I hope that that’s an extra incentive for RootsMagic to solve this.

I know this was from 2024 but when I recently in Aug 2026 downloaded my Ancestry GED file this message was front and center.

This topic was about downloading with TreeShare in RootsMagic. You are talking about exporting a GEDCOM file from Ancestry. The two are very different. I don’t think Ancestry ever did include media files with GEDCOM export. It does through its API that TreeShare uses.

The tile of the issue says “Starting with new file from Ancestry” and Ancestry produces a GED file on download. If this is truly about TreeShare, the title should be updated to avoid confusion.

It is merely “coincidental” to this topic that Ancestry has that option. GEDCOM by itself cannot contain anything but text written in a very specific format and typically contains ONLY stored file paths (to media). In fact, you posted a screenshot of the Ancestry downloader notification message that clearly tells You there will be no images.

The user has the ability to name the thread and there didn’t appear to be any confusion about subject matter (TreeShare) until your post.

In the future feel free to open a new post if your question appears different than the thread you are on, especially when it’s a couple years old. Some of the older posts are specific to older versions, especially with Ancestry. We have a new Ancestry API we are working with in RM11. Best to focus on more recent posts. I know your question was on Ancestry GEDCOM and others have replied, but this is for future reference as you begin using Ancestry TreeShare inside RM.

thank you for the response, but I actually gave up on RM. I tried multiple times and ways to upload the gedcom but the media did not upload…ever.

I’ve been using ancestry since it came online, and i guess RM just isn’t for me. A huge disappointment and a waste of time and money.

A RM GEDCOM uploaded to Ancestry will never contain media. In fact a GEDCOM for any program will not include media. If you use Ancestry TreeShare inside RM that media will be included in the upload. Hopefully, you have tried TreeShare since the new Ancestry API was released.
