# macOS Sonoma Screen Size

The macOS Sonoma issue with large screens happens on specific screen resolutions. RM Development is still trying to determine the cause. Its very possible this maybe something Apple will need to fix. As updates are released to Sonoma and RM please make sure to install them.
Until we have the cause of why some resolutions work, and others do not, we recommend you switch to a resolution that will work on your Mac.
1. Go into the Mac settings and chose “Display”
2. Click “Advanced”
3. Select “Show resolutions as a list”, then Done
4. Select “Show all resolutions”
Examples of possible resolutions with the following results:
- 3360x2100 - works
- 2880x1800 - works
- 2560x1600 - works
- 2048x1280 - works
- 1680x1050 - does NOT work
- 1650x1050 - works
- 1440x900 (default) - does NOT work
- 1280x800 - does NOT work
- 1152x720 - works
- 1024x768 - works

The M1 ARM iMac, 4.5K Retina, has a different list i.e. 2240 x 1260 is the default and does NOT work. A fix is to use 2240 x 1260 (low resolution) - works.

My list is different on my Mac mini. I also have to use a low resolution setting. I’ve had others tell me they had to pick a high resolution setting.

My experience as of 28 September 2023 \>
Sonoma 14.0 and RootsMagic 9 (latest update)
Not connected to external display
MacBook Pro 16-inch 2021
Built-in Display Resolutions
aspect ratios
Preset Apple XDR (P3-16— nits) but much better with HDR Video
Refresh rate ProMotion (other refresh rates seem okay)
- Contrast is much, much better with Preset at HDR Video (P3-ST 2084)
3456x2234 works
3456x2160 works
2992 x 1934 works
2992 x 1870 works
- 2624 x 1696 works very well
2624 x 1640 works
2560 x 1600 works well
2336 x 1510 works
2336 x 1460 works
1920 x 1200 works
Other resolution settings give the RootsMagic 9 the lower left part of the whole screen, so the paint pallet cannot be reached.

I have a 2020 mac air and I have tried other settings and but they spoil other apps, I will have to wait for you to resolve it.
