I hope you have a support ticket in to RM and have been updating them like you have here.
It’s unfortunate you are having various different issues with TreeShare but you can see that responses have dropped off since as fellow users (who may or may not have issues) we cannot help you.
Good luck
The changes are being made on Ancestry and that is where the date stamp is not changing to see a difference on the change log. Do you know how long it was before you actually see the changes appearing? It may not have anything to do with making additional changes that trigger it.
I do not know. From the examples given above, it appears that previous changes only appeared when I made a subsequent change, and not always then.
More problems today. I have been busy adding records from the Irish census of 1926. To monitor which I have and have not added, I set up groups of those with the records and likely candidates without it. To distinguish it from other records, I have added residence somewhere in Ireland on 18 April 1926, but occasionally, I forgot to add the 18 April, which Ancestry does not add automatically.
On searching for Residence contains Ireland and date = 1926, I found 42 cases where I had not entered the detail. I updated them all one by one in Ancestry and ran treeshare. None appeared as changed, and on browsing to the people concerned none of the records in treeshare reflected the changes I had just made.
I then went out for about three hours. On my return, eight of the 42 people whose records I had updated now appear as changed with the relevant information.
I worked through the list alphabetically from a-z. You will notice that the eight that appear are all towards the end of the alphabet. These appear to be the last eight that I changed.
Those towards the start of the alphabet do not appear as changed in Treeshare and the new information from Ancestry is not there. See this example
I know this is frustrating but it appears since the changes are being made on Ancestry that the issue is with Ancestry pushing the timestamp to us. What domain is your subscription with on Ancestry? Are you running RM from inside the country with the same domain? Just wondering if it’s an international time clock issue.
I live in Taiwan and use Ancestry.co.UK. The idea of a time clock issue is intriguing, but I don’t think that it can explain the problem.
Most of the changes I have made in Ancestry have flowed through to RM right away, which suggests an intermittent rather than systematic problem.
After running treesearch yesterday, and seeing eight of my previous changes, I made various other additions to Ancestry (in each case adding new events rather than just altering previous ones) and they all flowed through directly. I made a few more changes before going to bed last night and they were all there to be processed this morning, but I still only have eight of my 42 edits to the 1926 residence dates.
Since writing the last sentence above, I added an ‘x’ to the detail for the 1926 residence entry for John Strangman Barrington (one of those whose changes had not flowed through) and immediately ran treeshare. There his is, but none of the other previously missing entries has appeared with him.
I am left to conclude that there is an intermittent problem. One other possible factor is the intermittent comms problems that I still sometimes suffer from. Yesterday several times I got the error message that my RM tree was linked to an Ancestry tree but that I did not have access to it. From memory this was some time after my initial changes had failed to flow through, but it might have been before I added the final eight. If Ancestry thought it had sent the previous changes during these sessions, but RM did not receive them, then that might explain part of the problem.
I eventually made small changes to each of the outstanding people and pushed them through treeshare to RM. I did them in batches of ten or so, running treeshare immediately after finishing the last one in the batch. Each one of them appeared in treeshare promptly and correctly.
While running treeshare for the last of these batches, I initially had the same comms problem in which treeshare told me that I did not have access to the Ancestry tree. This happened repeatedly (as it usually does if it happens at all). I left it for a few minutes. When I came back and ran it again, it worked properly and all the expected people appeared.
As I say, it seems to be an intermittent problem. I have yet to see a pattern. To me this hints that some process along the way has not been written in a reliable way (eg not as a database transaction in which all parts of the process must complete or all will fail).
It would be interesting to observe if there is a particular time in the day you see intermittent problems appear.
I will watch closely.
Certainly not yet a pattern, but the next problem I have just come across. I had been working through a series of changes reflecting them back to RM with no problems. Then at about 12.10 pm Taipei Time (5.10 am London, 4.10 am GMT) some changes did not appear. These were extra data on two existing people and spouses for both the same people.
Five minutes later, I went back in and made a further change to one of the people and ran treeshare. This change immediately appeared.
As before, you can see a space for where her spouse should be, but no spouse.
After another change to his profile, he then appeared.
After making a change to the other couple’s marriage, both of them appeared too.
I did not notice any communication problems while doing any of this.
9 pm Taiwan, 2 pm UK time, 1pm GMT. I added three new people to Ancestry at different times, two children of the same couple and the spouse of one of these. One child and spouse were added two-three hours ago and the other child just now. I also just added detail to the names of two other children of the same marriage, a new source to these children’s step-mother and some detail to the text of her marriage to the children’s father. When I ran treeshare, none of them appeared as changed and nor did the children’s father or mother.
I have not experienced any comms problems.
Since writing the above, I have made a small change to the marriage of these children’s parents and run treeshare. They appear with their two previous children (unchanged) and the now familiar place holders for the two other children who should be there.
So I went in and made small changes to all the other people involved (usually adding a character to an event detail, saving it, deleting it and saving it again.) Still none of them appeared in Treeshare. (The screen is just as above.)
While I was making these changes in Ancestry via its web browser interface, I had various problems such as ‘this feature is currently unavailable’, where the feature concerned was amending a birth or marriage event.
I will now wait a while, probably until tomorrow morning my time, to see whether the changes come through without further intervention on my part, or indeed after further intervention on my part.
9.21 am Taipei time, 2.21 UK, 1.21 GMT. I have just run treeshare and the picture looks exactly the same as it did last night. The various changes I made yesterday have not appeared, despite my having made further changes to the profiles concerned. I also added or amended another 20 people last night and this morning, mainly through Ancestry’s mobile app. None of those changed or new people appear either.
10.37 am Taipei time 3.37 am London, 2.27 am GMT. Having gone into Ancestry and made changes in all the people I remember changing or adding previously, they now all appear to feature in Treeshare.
After processing these updates I fortunately have the same number of people in Ancestry and RM.
I do not think that any of these changed or new people came through automatically; they all required me to go in and make further amendments.
14.40 Taipei. 7.40 London, 6.40 GMT. I just added a new person in Ancestry and a new note on his father and ran treeshare. Neither change appears
circa 4pm Taipei, 9am London, 8am GMT, I made some further changes in Ancestry and ran treeshare. They appeared immediately. The changes I had made previously did not, so I went into all the people concerned and changed them again after which they did appear.
Some other changes made between then and now (8pm Taipei, 1pm London, 12 noon GMT) have also just appeared in Treeshare as expected.
So within certain time frames you need to make a second change to a person to make them appear in TreeShare? In other time frames changes made will directly show up?
Indeed, that seems to have been the pattern for the past few days.
However, I have made a series of changes over the past few hours (it is now 12.38 pm Taipei time, 5.38 am London, 4.38 GMT) and exactly one of those has just shown up in treeshare which I ran immediately before starting this post. That change was the deletion of a person in Ancestry and it was in the middle of the series of changes that I made this morning.
Although the last change I made was only a few minutes ago, I have just gone into that person’s profile and made a further change, and that person immediately appeared in Treeshare when I ran it. So did the next few people whose profiles I also changed again.
I have not yet seen a pattern in the timings, either in respect of when changes are first made in Ancestry or when treeshare is subsequently run.
14.06 Taipei time, 7.06am London, 6.06 am GMT. Since making the last post I have edited several more people in Ancestry. A few minutes after the last edit, I ran treeshare and none of the changes showed up. I then went into the last person edited, made another change and ran treeshare again and she did show up.
I then worked back through my browsing history looking for the other people I edited and changed them all again. None of them showed up when I ran treeshare.
So today’s experience looks more random than the some periods OK, some periods not of the past couple of days.
These people did show up in treeshare when I edited them again at about 4pm Taipei time.
Another set of new and changed people that I entered in Ancestry between about 6pm and 8pm Taipei time failed to appear in Treeshare at about 8.10pm, but have now appeared at 9pm after I went back into Ancestry and amended them all again.
