# Adding children to census couple facts

I have family entered in my tree with one surname, when they come to America, they have a new last name. I have added both names to each person. However, when I try to do a census for a family, I have to search for them using the original name. RM8 is not bringing up alternative names for linking a child to a census record.

Unfortunately, apparently since Alternate Name is an event and not a selectable person, one cannot attach a shared event to an event.
